It's been a nusy Friday, so the preview will be shirts and sweet today:
Brad Penny is making his second start for the Red Sox. He looked solid in his debut, hittiong the mid-90's with his fastball and lasting six full innings while allowing just three runs on five hits and two walks.
Penny has spent his career in the National League so most of the O's haven't seen him before... but their offense has been explosive, so Penny will need to bring his A-game tonight.
The O's will counter with their "ace" Jeremy Guthrie. Guthrie has been outstanding so far, beating the Yankees and the Rays in his first two starts. He's 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA, but he's not a strikeout pitcher.. the Red Sox could get to him early if they remain patient at the plate.
Dustin Pedroia and David Ortiz are both 5 for 15 (.333) against Guthrie and Jason Bay went 2 for 3 with a homer in his only match-up with Guthrie.
Bottom Line: The Orioles are 6-3... The Red Sox are 3-6. That's just wrong and I expect the Sox to change that during this series. The O's have a great offense, lead by Markakis, Roberts and the young Adam Jones... but we have some sluggers of out own and a few of them are just itching to break out (Ortiz, Pedroia, Ellsbury).
I expect lots of offense this weekend.
