This past weekend, Jason Bay took the great Mariano Rivera deep in the ninth inning to tie a game the Red Sox eventually went on to win 5-4.
Last night, with the score locked at 0-0, Jason Bay stepped in against Cleveland closer Kerry Wood... and proceeded to crush a fastball over the Monster for three runs.
"There's going to be a bounty out on me," Bay said with a laugh.
Damn straight.
Kevin Youkilis may look more like a guy you'd see on a WANTED! poster, but Jason Bay is making a name for himself as a closer killer.
"The guy throws like 100 miles an hour," Bay said. "You have to put it your mind to try and hit a mistake. I got a fastball up over the plate, and I didn't miss it."
This was Bay's third game changing, 9th inning ding dong of the young season, but Tim Wakefield was the co-MVP of last night's game.
Wake has been unhittable in his past three starts, throwing back to back complete games before one-hitting the Tribe last night through seven innings. He also fanned five, three of which came when he struck out the side in the 2nd inning.
With Matsuzaka on the DL and Beckett struggling, Wakefield has been huge, posting a 1.86 ERA and a .154 BAA through four starts.
Bottom Line: The Red Sox have won 11 straight and I don't anybody slowing us down.
