I know... I know... we've got four games with the Yankees starting tonight and I should be more focused, but when you see a sentence like "Mike Timlin spotted in the Rockies" you have to read more, right?
Inside the Rockies is reporting that Mike Timlin, 43, is rehabbing in Colorado in an effort to prove that he can still be a reliable major league reliever.
My guess he's also hunting mountain lions with a bowie knife and his bare hands, but that's a story for another time.
And as if that wasn't enough to peak your curiosity... it turns out that the Colorado system is a dumping ground for ex- Red Sox players. Mark Bellhorn, of 2004 fame, is on the DL, but also the system and former Pawtucket outfielder Paul McAnulty has landed there as well.
I guess playing of the Red Sox make it easy to switch to the Sky Sox...
Veteran reliever Mike Timlin joined Triple-A Colorado Springs on Wednesday after beginning his attempted comeback with two scoreless one-inning appearances with Rookie Casper on Sunday and last Friday.
Timlin, 43, was scheduled to work one inning Wednesday, but the Colorado Springs-Nashville game was suspended by rain in the bottom of the second inning. He went 4-4 with a 5.66 ERA last year in 47 games for the Red Sox. No team invited Timlin to spring training this year, so he stayed home in Castle Rock with his wife and two children. Timlin began playing catch with Mike Myers, a former Boston teammate and his neighbor in Castle Rock who arranged for Timlin to throw for the Rockies.
Because the Sky Sox were on a road trip from July 28 through Tuesday, Timlin went to Casper, which was home, to make his initial 2009 appearances.
In addition to Timlin, the Sky Sox also added outfielder-first baseman Paul McAnulty and left-hander Kurt Birkins to their roster. Reliever Ryan Speier (lower back), infielder Mark Bellhorn (shin) and catcher Sal Fasano (ankle) were placed on the disabled list.
