Here's what we know:

John Smoltz has stunk. He's allowed over one run per inning in his last three starts and opponents have tagged him for six ding dongs in 16.2 innings during that stretch.

The Yankees can hit. They trail only the Rangers (161) in home runs with 159 and they're just two runs behind the Angels (596) for the league lead with 594 runs scored. And speaking homers, the Yankees have 91 ding dongs in 52 home games this season...

Home sweet home. The Yankees have he best home record at 37-15. The Sox won the only two games they've played in the new Yankee Stadium, but that was in early May and we had Lester and Beckett starting.

Joba is on fire. Chamberlain is 3-0 with a 0.83 ERA in three starts since the All-Star break, allowing just eight hits in 21 2/3 innings.

Jason Bay is out. Bay hit his first homer since July 7th last night... but he re-aggrevated his ailing hammy and will miss the first two games of this series. Bay wasn't helping the offense much lately, but he kills the Yankees (.448 vs NYY) and now the pressure will be on V-Mart, Youk and Big Papi to produce runs...

Jacoby and Youk. Ellsbury (.321) and Youkilis (.560) have been two of our hottest hitters over the past week. They also love playing the Yankees. Jacoby is hitting .400 against the Yanks and Youk is hitting .375.

Mike Lowell: a not so secret weapon. Lowell is 5 for 13 (.385) against Joba and is hitting .352 with four double, a homer and 12 RBI in his last 10 games. Tito is going to have to find time for Lowell, even with V-Mart and Youk hitting so well right now...

Bottom Line: We have Beckett and Lester mixed in with Smoltz and Buchholz so we should be able to earn a split at worst... but staying undefeated would be awesome... not to mention it would put us in first place in the East.
