clay buchholz red sox.jpgJP Riaccardi says the Red Sox just didn't "wow" him with their offers for Roy Halladay.

We may never know who was included in the package deals affered by Theo Epstein, but its looking more and more like Clay Buchholz might have been the deal breaker...

One thing we do know is that Buchholz has pitched better with the trade deadline behind him.

Buchholz has allowed just three earned runs in his last 13 innings (2 GS), but has walked away with two losses thanks to the Red Sox offense struggling against the likes of aces C.C. Sabathia and Justin Verlander.

Buchhy will draw yeat another tough assignment tonight when he shares the mound wth Roy Halladay, but that could play to the advantage of the Red Sox. Normally, the Sox would be hoping to work Halladay early and beat up on the bullpen, but if Buchholz can keep the Blue Jays quiet, the Sox may only need a handful (or less) of runs to win this game.

Doc averages 7.5 innings per start, so the Jays will be hoping he can protect the bullpen with another complet game after Ricky Romero's 3 2/3 inning performance last night.

Last time out, Doc held the Sox to six hits and one run through nine full innings, while Jon Lester allowed three runs through seven. Let's hope we didn't use up all our offense with those 10 runs in last night's game...

Bottom Line: Facing Halladay can be scary, but many of the Sox have good career numbers against "Mr. Complete Game"...

Youk - 17 for 49 (.347), HR, 5 RBI
Lowell - 7 for 30 (.233 ), 3 HR, 9 RBI
Drew - 8 for 25 (.320),  HR
Ellsbury - 6 for 21 (.286), 2 HR, 3B
Ortiz - 25 for 91 (.275), 5 HR, 6 2B, 23 RBI

Buchhy is 1-2 with a 3.31 ERA in 3 starts against the Jays... if he can give us 6 or 7 soild innings, I think we can win this one.

See you on the Open Thread tonight!
