I'm sure many of you are sick of hearing about Adrian Gonzalez, but this comment from a NCTimes.com article by Dan Hayes is interesting:

On his current contract, a four-year deal with a team option for 2011: “At the time you take the security. … The next one is where I look for what I deserve.”

A-Gon won't be taking the home town discount to stay in San Diego and since the Padres payroll topped out at $44 million in 2009 and has never been over $74 million, it's safe to say Gonzalez will be on the move.

Bottom Line: Jed Hoyer could trade him to any team before he walks as a Free Agent, but there are only a handful of teams in the league with a large enough crop of prospects to make a realistic offer, and Boston is one of them.

There are also only a few teams in the league with the ability to offer Gonzalez the $100M/6-year deal he'll be looking for AND a chance to win a World Series. Boston and New York top that list, but the Yankees would have to convince A-Gon to DH with Mark Teixeira already at first base.
