Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Indians have trade Cliff Lee to the Phillies:

The Phillies are not getting Roy Halladay. But the pitcher they are getting just happens to be the reigning American League Cy Young award winner.

The Phillies have reached agreement on a trade that would bring them left-hander Cliff Lee and outfielder Ben Francisco from the Indians for Class A right-hander Jason Knapp, Class AAA right-hander Carlos Carrasco, shortstop Jason Donald and catcher Lou Marson, according to major-league sources.

The Phillies and Red Sox reportedly had the two best offers for Lee or Halladay, so is Doc now on his way to Boston?

Rosenthal says that Halladay is still set to start tonight against Seattle, indicating that JP Ricciardi does not have a deal in place. Sources say that Ricciardi is waiting to be bowled over with an offer and that he wants more than the offer the Red Sox reportedly mailed in earlier that included Buchholz and Masterson, Bowden or Anderson (among others)

Bottom Line: This deal makes Boston the best option for the Jays. Period. The Rangers could make a play and the Yakees are always lurking, but the Sox are the front runners now and JP does have Massachusetts connections... I'm just saying.

Also... with Marson now in the Indians organization anlong with Kelly Shoppach and prospect Chris Gimenez... might they consider parting with Victor Martinez?

A number of Sox fans have told me they don't want VMart (at least for the price the Tribe is asking), but he would help the offense right now... and with a varierty if youngsters coming over from Philly, maybe the Indians will be less demanding in theor talks with Theo...

We'll know soon enough.
