When asked if he would rule out trading Roy Halladay to an American League East competitor if it came time for the Blue Jays to deal their ace, Toronto GM J.P. Riccardi texted "No", Tuesday night. Earlier in the day Ricciardi first told Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com that the Blue Jays would listen to offers for Halladay, telling Rosenthal, "We have to see what's out there." I'm not saying we're going to shop him. But if something makes sense, we at least have to listen. We're (leaning) more toward listening than we've ever been." It is believed the Blue Jays would prioritize getting back a shortstop and pitching in any deal for Halladay.
Julio Lugo and Brad Penny. Done. Somebody call Ricciardi.
Okay, seriously... to get Halladay, the Sox are going to have to include Buchholz in the deal. The Rays can't afford to take on Lugo's salary. That, coupled with Julio's mediocrity, means the Jays will want more pitching and maybe a guy like Lars Anderson as well. I would assume Daniel Bard, Michael Bowden, Justin Masterson, Manny Delcarmen and Takashi Saito could all be on the list...
So, the question is - would you guys give up some or all of these players to have Doc Halladay in the rotation?
He's 32, we'd owe his $16M in 2010 and he's on his way to his forth concesutive 200+ IP season. We've seen guys like Wake and Shilling pitching successfully into thier 40's, but Halladay's "work horse" label could be a negative as much as a positive...
