I'm ready to move on from this "Ortiz did PEDs in 2003" stuff.
But with Theo still plotting and scheming his his secret lair, we're all forced to listen and read everyone's take on Ortiz and his magically career here in Boston.
So... time to pull the trigger Theo. You really don't want to wait until 3:59PM like last year do you?
Lee is in Philly, Washburn just went to Detroit and even Twins finally managed to pry Cabrera from Oakland... what are you waiting for?
Your Sox are in a funk and this steroid talk ain't helping... shaking things up with a big trade is the perfect way to turn the page and stack the deck in our favor for September and October.
Bottom Line: The media knows you have something cooking. Too many big names remain with their current clubs and we have too many prospects to be sitting on our hands here.
Make the call.
UPDATE: Ken Rosenthanl is reporting that the Red Sox are on the verge of acquiring C/1B/DH Victor Martinez from the Indians... more to follow.
Many Red Sox fans feel that VMart is not worth losing prospects like Buchholz, Bard, Bowden or Masterson, but FOX says Buchhy and Bard are NOT psrt of the package.
2:45 UPDATE: Extra Bases is reporting that the deal for VMart includes Justin Masterson and Nick Hagadone. Masterson will be missed...
3:00 UPDATE: MLB.com says Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Sox could still be working on a 3-way deal with the Dodgers and Padres that would send Adrian Gonzalez to Boston... this is what I'm talking about Theo.
Notes: Adam LaRoche become expendable if Martnez comes to Boston. Extra Bases says the Braves have expressed interest and short stop Yunel Escobar is a nice player...
However, I think we should be looking out for a blockbuster deal between Boston, LA and San Diego. They could send Gonzo to Boston for prospects and LaRoche could play 1B for SD, while Saito goes back to the Dodgers...
Lastly, Roy Halladay appears to be staying in Toronto, and with some prospects heading to Cleveland, the Sox might not have a strong enough package to apease Ricciardi... but you never know.
3:30 UPDATE: Adam LaRoche has been trade to the Braves for Casey Kotchman. Don't know why we swapped first baseman with Youk already hear and VMart on his way... My guess we're going to see a 3-way blockbuster in the next 15 minutes.
3:40 UPDATE: The VMart deal is official. We get Martinez and the Tribe get Masterson and two Double A prospects in Hagadone and Price.
Martinez is hitting .284 with 15 ding dongs and 67 RBI. He's caught 54 games this year and played 47 at first base... interestingly, he's hitting .329 as a 1B and just .247 as a catcher.
