Josh Beckett is looking more and more like the "ace" we expected to see this season. After going 2-2 with a 7.22 ERA in five April starts, Beckett took a no-hitter into the seventh last night and eventually earned his fourth victory in his last six games.
With the 10-5 win over the Tigers last night, Beckett is now 4-0 record with a 1.97 ERA in his last 6 starts. He has been particularly nasty in his last two starts, allowing just 1 earned run and just five hits over 14.2 innings while fanning 17 batters.
The new lineup seems to have woken up the offense as well. With Pedroia leading off, Drew behind him and Youk and Bay in the power spots, the Red Sox have scored 23 runs in three games. JD drew seems to be enjoing the two-hole - he's now 4 for 12 with a HR and 4 RBI since the bump up. Even David Ortiz, still in the 6th spot, seems to waking up with a hit in each of those games (two of those being doubles).
Every starter had a hit last night, including Pedroia, Youkilis and Ellsbury who each has two hits in the game.
Bottom Line: The Sox are now 5-4 on the road trip and could return to Fenway on a high note with a sweep of the Tigers this afternoon. The Yanks dropped one last night and will also play a day game today in Texas... so the Sopx could be back in first palce by the time you you hit that evening commuter traffic.
