Okay... I'm using Pedroia's three RBI night to show off my t-shirts... so sue me.
Pedey's 3-5, 3 RBI, 2 SB night was pretty awesome, but last night's 6-1 victory was full of exciting moments.
It was the 500th consecutive sellout for the Boston Red Sox.
Brad Penny earned his 100th win as a major leaguer and took a line drive off the chest in the process.
"I don't know how he stayed in that game and pitched. I just told him, 'If you collapse, we'll get (Justin) Masterson in the game,"' Red Sox manager Terry Francona said. "You can't hurt him. He's a strong kid and he likes to pitch. But when the game was over I came in to pat him on the chest and I thought he had a pacemaker. He's got a pretty good welt."
Jacoby Ellsbury was back in the two spot and hit his third homer of the season to go along with two walks, but he also made his first error as a major leaguer, but even the hitter, Jorge Cantu, wondered if it really was an error:
"It was the talk of the dugout for a few innings," Cantu said. "All I know is Ellsbury was full sprint for the ball. Kind of weird that they called that an error. He put a good run to it and he just barely missed it. It's not easy to catch that kind of ball on a line drive."
Ellsbury had gone 232 games and 554 chances without an error-- both franchise records.
Jason Bay, a know hockey fanatic, met Boston Bruins legend Bobby Orr, when he emerged from the Green Monster to shake hands.
And Big Papi remained hot, earning two walks and a double, while scoring three runs. He's now hitting .342 with 4 ding dongs, 10 RBI and 8 runs scored in June.
Bottom Line: The Red Sox are now three games up on the Yankees thanks to a loss to the Nationals last night... thank you Chien Ming Wang (snicker)... and we've got four more games at the Fens before we close out the month with three straight series on the road.
