The Red Sox have already swept the Tigers and the Yankees this month on the road to an 11-3 record in June. Tonight they will look to sweep a third team, the Marlins, with Jon Lester on the mound...
... and with Lester posting 10+ K's per game in his last three starts, I think it's safe to put a few buck down on the Sox tonight. Lester has been on a tear over his last three starts allowing just one run in each outing and a combined seven hits through 22 innings.
Florida is hitting .253 against southpaws and is second behind Arizona for the most strikeouts by a team with 540... so I expect a strong breeze coming out of Fenway tonight.
The Marlins will counter with Nicky Nolasco, a young righty who has struggled through most of the season, but has begun turing things around as of late. Nolasco fanned nine Blue Jays in a six inning effort his last time out. He gave up at leats one ding dong in every game in May, so Big Papi and the other power hitters could have a field day with Ricky tonight if his control falters.
Notes: Ellsbury is riding a five game hitting streak that includes three multi-hit games, two homers and five stolen bases... Jason Bay has the most experience versus Nolasco and is 2 for 10 with one strikeout... Lefty Mark Kotsay should get the start in RF with a righty on the mound - he's 2 for 2 with a double and a triple against Nolasco...
