Terry Francona met with the media in his office and the first question, of course, was about David Ortiz not being in the lineup. This was fairly predictable since the Sox are facing the lefthanded Willis, even though Ortiz hit a base-loaded double in the eighth inning Wednesday night.
Francona explained, "Day game after a night game, and with the angle he [Willis is a drop-down lefty] throws from, this is something to point to. We talked about it last night. We also want to make sure J. D knows when he's going to DH. This is just doing what you think is right. This is just a day he [Ortiz] is gonna sit.''
Other Notes: Lugo get's his first start after being benched fo the past four games... Youk's fot/ankle is apprently okay after getting stepped on last night... Baldelli is hitting .323 vs LHP and both of his homers were hit off of lefties...
Just an FYI - so far his year Dontrelle Willis has been great at home and awful on the road:
Home: 1-1, 2 GS, 13.0 IP, 3 ER, 2.08 ERA, 9 K, 1 BB, .174 BAA
Road: 0-1, 2 GS, 9.2 IP, 11 ER, 10.24 ERA, 1 K, 4 BB, .450 BAA
