The offense went to sleep over the weekend, but the Sox have been known to beat up on the Baltimore Orioles, so perhaps that's all about to change...
The Red Sox outscored the Orioles 30-14 in sweeping a four-game series in Boston from April 17-20 and have plated 56 runs in winning the last seven meetings. The Red Sox have won 11 of the last 12 in the series and five of the last seven at Camden Yards.
The O's also have the leagues 3rd worst ERA at 4.97... so we'll have that going for us... which is nice. (insert Caddy Shack credit here)
Jon Lester gets the start tonight. He's never lost toe the O's and owns a 7-0, 2.45 ERA against them in nine career starts. That said, he's just 3-3 with a 5.26 ERA oon the road this season, despite beating the Nationals in Washington his last time out.
Aubrey Huff is the RBI leader for the Orioles with 52 and hits Lester well: 8 for 22 (.346 with a HR... Brian Roberts is also a threat and is 6 for 22 (.273) in his career against Lester... Nick Markakis (a lefty) and Adam Jones are the other sluggers in the lineup and Jones is 5 for 12 (.417) against Lester.
The O's will counter with Jason Berken. The Sox have never faced the young righty and that can sometimes be a challenge for the Sox, but Berken has lost four of his last five starts and has averaged just 5 innings per start along the way. If the Sox are patient, they should be able to get the kid early and beat up on that mediocre bullpen.
Bottom Line: I expect Jason Bay and Kevin Youkilis to have big games tonight - write it down.
