amazingellsburyshirtimage.jpgYou can choose to disagree if you want, but other than an inside the park home run or stealing home plate, the triple is the most exciting play in baseball.

Sure, game winning blasts into the bleachers are fun... and sure Dave Roberts stolen base in 2004 was one of the coolest things I ever saw, but watching Jacoby leg out TWO triples last night reminded me just how fun baseball can be.

I'll be 30 this July, but I still have a little speed force left in these legs and I've hit my fair share of triples in summer softball leagues. I know the feeling of rounding second and thinking: "The outfielder just picked up the ball... but I know I can beat the throw to third."

So I can only imagine what Jacoby thinks when he smokes a line drive into the gap, like he did lats night. With his speed, my guess is he's thinking inside the park ding dong every time, but two triples in one game is no small feat... especially when it comes with his 30th stolen base of the year and a 4 for 4 night.

Ellsbury was perfect in the game, but Jason Bay was pretty awesome too, smashing his 19th homer of the season and collectinig four hits himself while driving in three. Dustin Pedroia also got the monkey off of his back with a 3 for 6 night and Youk was 2 for 5 with two runs and two RBI.

Brad Penny did what Brad Penny's do best it seems - pitch 5+ innings, fan a handful of batters and give up just enough hits and runs to keep it interesting, but not enough to earn a loss. He remains at 6-2 on the year, but it would be nice to see him get into the 7th once and a while...

Bottom Line: Chien-Ming Wang and the Yankees dropped another one last night, so we're sitting ona five game lead in the East... if it wasn't raining for the 17th day in a row, I'd be pretty happy right now.
