The Red Sox sqaured off with "Doc Halladay" and the Blue Jays this afternoon and the Sox youngsters were not intimidated by the veteran righty.
Jed Lowrie got the Red Sox on the board in the first with an RBI double that scored Jacoby Ellsbury. Lowrie then went deep in his next at-bat and did so from the left side of the plate - a good sign for his healing wrist.
Jeff Bailey also went deep and reminas one the Sox' hottest hitters this spring. He was 2 for 4 on the day with a homer and double... and remains the favorite to win the "Kotsay spot on the 25-man roster.
But Chris Carter is not going down without a fight. Carter also homered and is 2 for 4 as well with two RBI... Side Note: JD Drew 0 for 3 with two strikeouts and was replaced by McAnulty in the 5th.
Justin Masterson allowed his first earned runs of the season, allowing 3 run on 6 hits through three innings of work. He also fanned three batters. Daniel Bard was asked to relieve Materson with men on second and third in the 4th. We assume that the Sox want to see if Bard can still mow 'em down under pressure. He started out by fanning Travis Snider, but gave up an RBI single before getting out of the inning with a fly out. Overall he fanned two, walked one, gave up two hits in two innings of work and earned the 'W.'
Oh, and Michael Bowden gave up another run in one inning of work... but he did notch three strikeouts as well.
