Despite having just one "regular" in the lineup, the Red Sox pounded the Reds for a 9-1 victory last night.
Jed Lowrie was the one regular and he did not disappoint blasting his second ding dong of the spring off of former Red Soxstarter Bronson Arroyo. Jed was 3 for 4 on the night with a double, a home run and three RBI. Lowrie is now hitting .462 overall this spring and it appears that his injured wrist is not bothering him at all.
Jon Lester has looked sharp all spring and last night was no exception. Lester faced 16 batters through 4 1/3 innings, allowing three hits and one run. He also fanned six on the night and is now tied with Daniel Bard for the team lead with 11.
Speaking of Bard... he knotched another K in a clean inning of work last night to keep pace with Lester, but he's only pitched eight innings. It should also be noted that Lester has 11 strikeouts in just 10.2 innings of work.
Other Notes: Manny Delcarmen and Ramon Ramirez also had clean innings out of the bullpen ... Chris Carter hit another home run (3rd of spring) and went 2 for 5 on the night, while Jeff Bailey earned two walks and scored a run ... and Rocco Baldelli was 0 for 3 with a walk and a strikeout as the leadoff man.
Up Next: Dustin Pedroia will get two at-bats in todays game against the Pirates.
"He'll take BP Saturday and then maybe get three at-bats on Sunday. He's doing fine," Terry Francona said.
"After the initial relief, once he started getting back into what he was doing, we thought he was going to be OK," Francona said. "I think when he first came back, we were all kind of holding our breath a little bit."
"I haven't felt it one time since I got back," Dustin Pedroia said. "I think the two days that I had off, actually three days that I had off, kind of calmed everything down. Everything's been fine."
