The Red Sox beat the Pirates today 11-4. Here are some quick notes from the game:

Clay Buchholz wasn't exacly lights out this game, but he fought through some tough innings and held the Pirates to one unearned run and four hits over five full innings of work. The unearned run came on a botched pickoff attempt by Bucky that Paul McAnulty never saw coming.

Buchholz also fanned three in the game and now leads the team with 12 strikeouts this spring.

Jason Varitek belted a 3-run home run in the second and added a fourth RBI in the 5th.

Dustin Pedroia looked good at the plate and in the field after taking a few days off to rest a strained abdominal muscle. He made a ranging play to his left in the first and rifled a single down the third base line in the third before being replaced by Ivan Ochao.

JD Drew was hit in the hand by a pitch in the fifth and sent for x-rays... the x-rays are precautionary, but add this injury to the list, right?

Jacoby Ellsbury was 1 for 3 with a double and a stolen base as the lead off man. Chip Ambres replace him in CF and hit a 2-run ding dong in the 7th.

Paul McAnulty was 3 for 4 with a walk, an RBI and a two runs scored after filling in at fiorst and in left. George Kottaras was 2 for 2 with a double and two RBI after taking over for Varitek.

Papelbon, who told the Globe this morning that he is NOT fighting a shoulder injury, gave up two runs on three hits in one inning of work. He knotched three strikeouts in his inning of work, but that was after loading the bases and allowing a 2-run double... Last Sunday, Papelbon hit the first two batters he faced and gave up a run. Two days later, he gave up a run on two hits in one inning.
