Some questions have been answered... and some remain.
Brad Penny looks healthy and is on track to make his April 12th start with the Red Sox. If the shoulder stays strong, Penny could end up being a major steal for the Sox in 2009.
Tim Wakefield and his knuckleball reamain a question mark every time he takes the mound, but he also appears and he's consistently won 10-15 games a season when he gets 30 starts.
Clay Buchholz remains in the running for a starting job with the major league club, but if Penny stays on track, it may be one or two early starts at best.
Anything can happen in 162 game season, but the Bottom Line readers have spoken and it appears that Tim Wakefield's experience and commitment to the Red Sox has won over the fans.
The Bottomliners gave Wake a slight edge over Brad Penny to win the most games in 2009.
The race was tight from start to finish with Clay Buchholz grabbed over 20% of the votes, despite the uncertainty surrounding his role with the team and John Smoltz earned 15.5% of the votes even though he won't make a start until June.
Bottom Line: Many feel that the move from the NL to to the AL (specifically he AL East) will hurt Penny and he'll be lucky to win 12 games - if he stays healthy. I can't disagree with that, but I'll take 12 wins from a bargin FA pick up...
My vote was for Wakefield. I think Tim knows this could be the final hoorah and I expect him to focus on staying healthy and helping the team win one more ring before he hangs 'em up and gives way to the likes of Buchholz, Bowden and Masterson.
If he stays healthy, you can mark him down for 13 wins... if he doesn't watch out for Clay Buchholz. If he gets 20 starts, he'll win 12 or more games.
