Last week Grady Sizemore edged out Jacoby Ellsbury... this week it's battle between two of the best second basemen in baseball:
Dustin Pedroia vs Chase Utley
In 2008 Pedroia hit .326 and just missed adding a batting title to his mantle to go along with an MVP award, a 2007 Rookie of the Year Award and a World Series ring. Chase Utley hit .292 in '08, but he did hit 33 home runs and earned his own WS ring.
So it comes down to power, once again. Utley did hit .332 in 2007, but he tends to average about 100 Ks per season, so low .300's may be come the norm for him... Pedroia hits everything and only Ks half as often (52 in 2008), but he'll probably max out at 20 ding dongs in a season. Much like your center fielder, most teams aren't looking for power in their second baseman, but unlike last week's match-up, both of these guys are 5-tool players. They can hit for average, with some pop and they can even steal 20 bags if needed...
So who ya got!?
