josh beckett red sox yankees.jpgIt was wet and, at times, it was ugly... but the Red Sox swept the Yankees in their first ever trip to the new Yankee Stadium. Jon Lester and Mike Lowell lead the Sox past Phil Hughes yesterday and Josh Beckett battled his way through the elements and the Yankee lineup last night to secure the 7-3 victory.

Beckett was coming off of two bad outings based on poor command (20 H, 3 HR, 7 BB in 9.2 IP) but he buckled down early and held the Yankees to three runs through six innings last night.

He allowed 10 hits for the third straight start, but Johnny Damon's 3-run homer in the 3rd inning was the only big hit. The good news is that Beckett only walked one batter - a good sign given the rain and the Yankee's patience at the plate. This could be a turning point for Beckett...

Joba Chamberlain has an odd outing, allowing four runs in the first and then striking out everyone else until he ran out of gas in the 6th inning. He fanned 12 on the night, but you have to wonder if his mother's recent arrest for allegedly selling meth was distracting him...

Jason Bay was the offensive hero, blasting a 3-run ding dong in the 1st inning and Dustin Pedroia extended his hitting streak to five games with 3 for 4 night.

Bottom Line: We knocked the Yanks to 4.5 games back and we're just one game behind the surprising Toronto Blue Jays with The Tribe coming to town.
