The David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Tournament is set for Dec. 3-6, 2008 at Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic. The event benefits the David Ortiz Children’s Fund, providing children in New England and the Dominican Republic access to the pediatric critical care they need to live full and productive lives. Here in New England, the Fund is aligned with Massachusetts General Hospital for Children.

Attendees of this year’s event include Boston Red Sox Players: Jacoby Ellsbury, Mike Lowell, Jon Lester, Clay Buchhloz, Daniel Bard, Jason Varitek, Tim Wakefield, Manager Terry Francona and Pitching Coach John Farrell; Former Red Sox players: Sean Casey, Jim Rice, Luis Tiant and former Red Sox coach Brad Mills. Other MLB players in attendance will include: Mariano Rivera, Alex Rodriguez, Torii Hunter, Vladimir Guerrero, Pedro Martinez, Placido Planco, Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard. Boston sports legends Bobby Orr and John Havlicek will also participate.

In addition to the event, there is an online auction which runs through Friday, Dec. 4. There are some amazing items in the auction, including tickets to the NHL Winter Classic at Fenway, tickets for the 2010 Red Sox Home Opener vs. the NY Yankees, the chance to throw the first pitch at Fenway park, a children’s birthday party with David Ortiz at Big Papi’s Grille and much more.
