V-Mart will be back in Boston for 2010.
This is great news, since Martinez' arrival on July 31st snapped David Ortiz out if his funk and sparked the offense for the entire second half. If the Sox can re-sign Bay, we'll have a nice looking heart of the order with Bay, V-Mart and Youk.
Now that we know V-Mart will definitely be back, it raises some interesting questions:
1) Will the Sox keep Jason Varitek around? Will Tek want to stay in Boston as the back up? 2) If the Sox traded for Adrian Gonzalez, Victor will be forced to catch more games with A-Gon at first base... David Ortiz can't DH in San Diego, but moving him to another AL team would give the Red Sox a variety of options:
Lowell at 3B or DH Youk at 1B, 3B or DH A-Gon at 1B or DH V-Mart at C, 1B or DH
Of course, moving Mike Lowell would work too, but the above scenario give them the most options.
