Killing time while we wait for the Twins and Tigers to play...

Here's a quick look at how the Sox did against all possible playoff opponents this year:

Jon Lester

vs NYY: 1-1, 4 GS, 4.43 ERA, .283 BAA

vs LAA: Did not face the Angels this season

vs MIN: 0-1, 1 GS, 7.50 ERA, .273 BAA

vs DET: Did not face the Tigers this season

Josh Beckett

vs NYY: 2-1, 5 GS, 5.34 ERA, .268 BAA

vs LAA: 0-1, 2 GS, 4.50 ERA, .268 BAA

vs MIN: 1-0, 1 GS, 1.29 ERA, .136 BAA

vs DET: 2-0, 2 GS, 1.23 ERA, .102 BAA

Clay Buchholz

vs NYY: 0-1, 1 GS, 3.00 ERA, .286 BAA

vs LAA: Did not face the Angels this season

vs MIN: Did not face the Twins this season

vs DET: 0-1, 1 GS, 1.29 ERA, .192 BAA

Daisuke Matsuzaka

vs NYY: 0-1, 1 GS, 1.29 ERA, .231 BAA (9/26/09)

vs LAA: 1-0, 1 GS, 0.00 ERA, .143 BAA (9/15/09)

vs MIN: 0-1, 1 GS, 5.40 ERA, .409 BAA (5/27/09)

vs DET: 1-0, 1 GS, 1.80 ERA, .333 BAA (6/2/09)

New York Yankees

9-9 record, Red Sox won first eight games, Yankees won nine of last ten

C.C. Sabathia: 3-1, 4 GS, 2.22 ERA, .172 BAA

A.J. Burnett: 0-2, 4 GS, 8.85 ERA, .291 BAA

Andy Pettitte: 2-1, 4 GS, 3.75 ERA, .278 BAA

Joba Chamberlain: 2-1, 4 GS, 4.91 ERA, .299 BAA

Note: The Red Sox have the second best OPS against southpaws (C.C., Pettitte) with a .812 mark. Only the Yankees were better at .846.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

4-5 record, Red Sox went 2-4 in LA and 2-1 at Fenway

John Lackey: 0-1, 1 GS, 2.35 ERA, .286 BAA

Jered Weaver: 1-0, 2 GS, 0.66 ERA, .174 BAA

Scott Kazmir: 2-0, 2 GS, 3.27 ERA, .289 BAA

Joe Saunders: 0-1, 2 GS, 4.26 ERA, .313 BAA

Note: This is the most complete team the Angels have had in years... but they've lost three ALDS series to the Red Sox since 2004.

Detroit Tigers

6-1 record, The Tigers needed eight shutout innings from Justin Verlander to beat the Clay Buchholz and Red Sox and avoid a season series sweep.

Justin Verlander: 1-1, 1 GS, 0.00 ERA, .143 BAA

Edwin Jackson: 0-0, 1 GS, 9.00 ERA, .450 BAA

Rick Porcello: 0-1, 2 GS, 6.75 ERA, .391 BAA

Note: Jim Leyland is going to have to manage his ass off to make it to the World Series this year. If the Tigers beta the Twins today, they will likely be forced to play the Yankees on Wednesday which might cause trouble for his starters - especially if they force a Game 5.

Also - The Tigers and Red Sox rumbled earlier this year in Fenway... could tempers flare up again in a possible ALCS match-up?

Minnesota Twins

4-2 record, The Sox split a four-game set in the Dome and won both games played at Fenway.

Nick Blackburn: 1-0, 1 GS, 1.29 ERA, .286 BAA

Carl Pavano: 1-0, 1 GS, 3.00 ERA, .273 BAA (5/6/09 with CLE)

Scott Baker: 0-1, 1 GS, 11.57 ERA, .417 BAA

Note: The Twins are red hot right now and have forced a one-game playofffor the second year in a row. In 2008, the lost a heart-breaker to the White Sox after sweeping Chicago a week earlier. If the Twins get past the Tigers, the'll have a major challenge ahead of them in New York... the Yankees won all seven games against the Twins this year.
