Thumbnail image for tim wakefield rain royals red sox.jpgOkay... Wake says we can't blame it on the rain, but we had a 6-0 lead when the cloud opened up last night in Kansas City and when I woke up this morning to check the score we had lost 12-9... to the freakin' Royals.

"No excuses. I made a bad pitch to Jacobs [who hiot a 3-run HR in the 6th] and got them back in the game," Wakefield said. "It's brutal. We gave the game away, bottom line."

Thanks for the plug Timmy.

It's tough to say what happened last night. The Sox were up 6-0 and 8-2 during this game, but Wake was laboring from the get go and left after five with an 8-5 lead thanks to SEVEN walks - a career high that he has only matched two other times. Francona says they may use Wake to create a six-man rotation and get everyone some extra rest, but you have to wonder if Timmy should just shut it down at this point.

The worst part about this collapse it that the Yankees last to the Angels. We could inched a little closer to the AL East title, but we blew it. Most likely the Sox won't "push" for the division, but if Wake says he's heathly after this he could get the start on Sunday in the Bronx... and guess who we were playing against in those other 7 walk starts?

The Yankees.

On a more positive note... Martinez extended his hitting streak to 20 games, Bay hit his 36th ding dong and added 3 RBI to give him 113 on the year, and Ellsbury  and Pedroia remain red hot at the top of the lineup.

Now we get to face Zack Greinke with Paul Byrd on the mound... should be interesting.
