gonzo.jpgAlex Gonzalez blooped the game-winning hit into left field last night, giving the Red Sox a 9-8 win over the Angels!

Gonzo was 2 for 3 on the night with 2-run single in the 5th and the game winner in the 9th. He came into last night's game hitting .287 in with Boston and has been as big an addition to this team as Victor Martinez has been.

Gonzo was the hero, but this was a wild game that included more costly errors and miscues by the Angels and some poor umpiring (if your a Halos fan).

Gonzo's hit was made possible by a sloppy inning from Angels' closer Brian Fuentes. He walked Ortiz and Drew after getting two quick outs... then he gave up a grounder down the third base line to pinch-hitter Jed Lowrie that would have tied the game if Chone Figgins hadn't made a Web Gem caliber diving stop to keep it in the infield. Then he lost Nick Green after getting ahead with two strikes and eventually walked him to give tie the game on a ball that should have been a called third strike.

Then Gonzo got the bloop and the rest is history.

Earlier in the game, Gonzo was able to knock in two runs thanks to and error by Aybar and a blown double play opportunity by Kendrick.

Bottom Line: After watching Lackey blow the game yesterday with some sloppy fielding and tonight's double-comeback by the Sox... I'm really starting to believe that the Angels are cursed in Fenway Park.

And I'm cool with that.

ps. the Rangers lost to Oakland again, so now we have a 6.5 game lead in the wild card race.
