He also has a 0.00 ERA against the AL East... and teams with birds as mascots. He also looks alittle bird-like in this photo... but I digress.
But, as we all know, I'm simply using the stats to make myself feel better about tonight's game against the O's.
Paul Byrd threw six shutout innings against the Blue Jays in his major league debut two starts ago... but he got shelled in Chicago for 7 runs on 10 hits through 2 1/3 innings his last time out.
Basically, that means we have no idea what to expect tonight.
Tito tried to tell the media that pitchers simply run into a wall of sorts after their first handful of starts in Spring Training... and the Chi-Sox game was Byrd's "wall."
Problem is... we don't have four months to wait for Byrd to get up to speed. We need him to be good now. To be clear, we don't need another 3-hitter... we just need him to hold the O's down while the offense does what it does best at Fenway - pile up the runs.
Bottom Line: We have the Orioles' number this season and the last time this Berken kid played Boston he didn't even finish the second inning. We tagged him for six runs on six hits and two walks through 1 1/3.
I'll take another one of those please.
