Sean McAdam of CSNNE is reporting that Mike Cameron will indeed hit the 15-day DL after spending all day yesterday in the hospital.
Cameron was scratched from the Red Sox lineup Monday morning after complaining of discomfort similar to the pain he felt late last week when he passed a kidney stone. After numerous tests Tuesday, it was determined that he had the strain, which is probably related to the groin pull he experienced late in spring training.
Abdominal pulls can be slow to heal and it's possible that Cameron could miss more than 15 days.
With Jacoby Ellsbury still struggling with a bruised rib, the Sox are likely to call up some outfield help. Josh Reddick is the obvious choice and should be an upgrade in the field over Bill Hall, but he's hitting just .179 through 39 at-bats with the Paw Sox. After spending a few days hiding in a Boston hotel, Reddick returned to Pawtucket and seems to have been inspired by the potential call up. He's 3 for 10 with a homer, a triple, a double, 4 runs cored and 4 RBI in his last two games.
Cameron seemed to be turning a corner with two doubles in his last two games, but he's hitting .233 on the young season and has yet to record an RBI. If he's been nursing a sore groin/ab all season, then the rest should do him and the Red Sox some good in the long run.
