According to an ESPN report, tests on Jacoby Ellsbury revealed that the Red Sox outfielder has another fractured rib and “probably” will miss the rest of the season. Ellsbury suffered his latest injury on Friday in Texas when he collided with Rangers pitcher Tommy Hunter during the first inning.
Red Sox manager Terry Francona said after Tuesday’s game at Fenway Park that the team would discuss a recovery plan with Ellsbury Wednesday, after the player returned from his visit with Dr. Lewis Yocum in California.
“Nothing official,” Francona said. “I just talked to Dr. Tom Gill a minute ago. He said they’re planning on talking tomorrow morning. I think Ells was grabbing the red-eye home. I think the plan was to meet with him tomorrow and get everybody involved and assess what the plan is. Nothing official tonight.”

Outfielder Mike Cameronsaid Tuesday night that he is done for the season due to his abdominal tear. Speaking to ESPN.com, Cameron said he is scheduled to talk with general manager Theo Epstein on Wednesday to discuss a timetable for surgery
“We’re in a position now where we need all of the healthy — physically and mentally — guys possible playing in the field,” Cameron said. “Me trying to play 65 percent is probably not beneficial to the ballclub at the moment.
“We’re coming to the part of season now where it’s important to have the healthiest guys on the baseball field. I’m looking at that aspect. Sometimes, as hard as it’s been to give in to certain things, it’s probably best to start looking at other options now.”
Bottom Line: Daniel Nava was called up to fill the open spot in the outfield, meaning the Sox will fight for a playoff spot with Nava, Darnell MacDonald, Ryan Kalish, Bill Hall and J.D. Drew in the outfield...
Unreal.
