We don't get the see where the "magic happens," but MLB.com has a "Cribs" style video of Jason Varitek's offseason workout program.

Who knew it was this easy to hit .220 in the majors... (snicker).

My money is on Tek coming back in great shape and starting off just like he did in '09, energized and hitting for power and average. IMO, he could be the perfect backup catcher in baseball, as with rested legs and body for 6 months, he should be able to maintain good hitting and receiving through the season. This, while helping Victor, Brown, Wagner & the pitchers adjust. I'm betting he ends the year somewhere around .250/.330/.430 with 10/35/35 and 152b, batting mostly from the right side.

I'm also willing to bet that this 'show up in great shape' theme, once pretty much limited to Pedey & Youk, is now pervasive, and we will see Daisuke, Ells, J.D., Jed Lowrie, Papi, Jeremy Hermida, Victor and most of the pitchers looking fitter than ever to start S.T. It's become a team thing, and this is a good thing. I'm getting excited and can't wait to get to S.T. This team, IMO, is a sleeper.
