The Red Sox have a number of players on the roster that will be looking to bounce back from 2009 campaigns ranging from mediocre to disappointing. While role players like Jeremy Herminda and Bill Hall will be hoping to do from the bench, David Ortiz, Daisuke Matsuzaka and Adrian Beltre will all be starting for the Sox in 2010... and Red Sox Nation will be praying for strong performances out of all three guys.
While I expect good things from Matsuzaka this season, seeing him arrive in Fort Myers with back issues makes it hard to belive that he will stay healthy and effective enough to win another 18 games. Meanwhile, David Ortiz's second half in 2009 gives hope that he can still be a 30 HR, 100 RBI man in this lineup.
And you guys seem to agree.
Ortiz says the key to bouncing back will be putting the past behind him. Last year, Ortiz was bombarded with steroid alligations, injuries and the death of his father... it took him most of the season to get over all of that and get back to looking like "Big Papi."
With all of those issues out of the way, Ortiz should prove his loyal voters correct... and the Red Sox will be counting on that.
ps. I was happy to see that Beltre managed to keep pace in this poll... I think he's going to surprise some people this year.
