“We changed our mindset,” Dustin Pedroia said after last night's 17-8 win over the Angels. “We needed to play well. We didn’t play well in Baltimore. We expected things to happen.”
A sweep at the hands of the worst team in baseball will do that...
Or maybe it was the team meeting the Red Sox had before the start of this 10-game homestand. What ever it was, something clicked last night and the Sox jumped all over a struggling Angels team for 20 hits, 4 ding dongs and 17 runs. Bill Hall and Adrian Beltre hit their first homers as Red Sox, and Beltre in particular has been very impressive, notching his 6th multi-hit game in eight starts.
JD Drew is also on fire. His 4-5 performance last night pushed his average up to .247, almost 100 points higher than the .147 BA he had just 10 games ago. During that time he's hit 3 homers and driven in 11 runs, giving him 5 and 17 on the year and putting him on pace for 25 homers and 85 RBI on the season.
Josh Beckett said after the sweep that "winning cures all," and while that may be true, he also said this:
"We've got good guys here. Everybody gets along," said Beckett. "I was actually noticing this the other day, that we've got an abnormal amount of beer-drinking buddies. Not that we drink too much beer, but that we get along. We had 15 guys go to dinner for three straight nights on that first road trip. When we start putting things together like I know this team is going to do everybody is going to be talking about what great chemistry we have."
Bottom Line: If all it takes is round of beers to get 17 runs out of these guy, I will see you all at the Flagon for pre-game.
