Josh Beckett hit the DL yesterday with back spasms. RP Joe Nelson wascalled up to take his roster spot and Tim Wakefield will make his scheduled start against the Phillies this weekend.

Now Marco Scutaro has been shut down due to "tennis elbow."

From Exta Bases:

Angel Sanchez will be [called up] from Pawtucket and will start at shortstop according to the Red Sox. Marco Scutaro has what is being described as "tennis elbow" in his left (non-throwing) elbow.

Scutaro had a cortisone shot before the game today and is going to miss at least two games. Terry Francona said the injury has bothered him at the plate while Theo Epstein chimed in that it also has affected him in the field closing his glove around balls.

“It’s actually been bothering him for a while. We know it’s been bothering when he’s been swinging the bat. He really wanted to play through it. He’s done a nice job. We talked about it last week a little bit and the more we talked it made sense to do that. He’s going to be just fine.”

Scott Schoeneweis has been DFA'd t make room for Sanchez on the roster and once Scuatro is healthy, the Sox will likely swap Sanchez for another RP.
