Let's face it folks, we've got a full month of baseball to go, so rather than focus of the lost 2010 season, I'm going to do my best to blog about the positive and prepare for 2011...
... starting with Jon Lester.
Lester is 14-8 with a 3.12 ERA this season. He's coming off of one of his best starts of the season in which he held the Ray to 2 hits and one run (unearned) through 7 innings while striking out 10 batters. Lester had a disastrous start against the Jays before that, but I blame the heat from his 8-inning performance in Texas for that. He blanked the Rangers through 8 in that game and Yankees through 6+ the starts before that. In short, he's been dominant as of late and history tells us that he should dominate again tonight...
Lester is 12-0 with a 2.00 ERA in 15 starts against the Orioles. The last time he faced them was July 3rd and he held the to 1 run though 7 and fanned 7 batters. He's even better at Camden Yards, posting a 5-0 record and a 1.83 ERA in 7 career starts there.
The odds are stacked in our favor tonight folks. Plain and simple. The O's will be countering with Jake Arrieta (4-6, 5.10). The kid has lost his last three starts and the only thing going for him tonight is the fact that the Sox sometimes struggle with pitchers they haven't seen before.
Bottom Line: This has gotta be a win. No excuses.
